Aboveground Drilling

The Aboveground Drilling program introduces CCLs to the unique working environment of aboveground drilling by providing instructor facilitated classroom instruction along with intensive, performance-based, hands-on training. The care and use of tools and equipment are presented, as well as drilling techniques. Basic information about rocks and their composition and characteristics is introduced, as drillers must know how geology affects the drilling process. The personal safety of CCLs working on a drilling site is reviewed in depth. Site safety, hazard communication, health hazards, personal protective equipment, and working around explosives are also covered.
